Seven pet industry companies ranked in Entrepreneur Magazine’s 38th annual Franchise 500 rankings for 2016, including three in the top 200 companies. In descending order, the companies are Pet Supplies Plus, Wild Birds Unlimited, Petland, Dogtopia, Camp Bow Wow, Wag N’ Wash Natural Food & Bakery, and Earthwise Pet Supply.

According to Entrepreneur,  five “pillars” make up the key consideration for company rankings. They include costs and fees associated with the franchise, the size and growth of the companies, support for franchises, the brand’s strength on social media and other factors, and the financial strength of the franchisee.

Other considerations taken into account were company size (at least 10 open locations), location (at least one franchise in the U.S. or Canada), and corporate viability (no company could “be in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings”). About 1,000 companies were considered for the honors.

“These rankings reflect what we all know,” said PIJAC President Mike Bober. “The responsible pet industry is good for pets and good for business. We at PIJAC congratulate all of the companies who made the list.”
